Meet Tina

TChu

Tina Chu is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) in the state of North Carolina.  Tina works with children, adolescents, and adults ages 7 to 21 and incorporates family therapy as needed.  She was born and raised in the suburbs of New York and attended Fordham’s School of Social Work, where she received her Master’s in Social Work Degree in 2015.

While she pursued her social work degree, Tina completed two internships, where she provided long-term care management and therapy services to teens and adults. Upon her graduation, she began working towards fulfilling the requirements needed to become a fully licensed clinician. During this time, she worked as a social worker for a short-term residential foster care facility catered to helping teen boys reacclimate into the community. She then worked for a non-profit mental health agency, offering school and office-based therapy services to children, teens, adults, and families. Tina later moved to North Carolina in 2018, where she continued her work with children, adolescents and families at Alexander Youth Network.

Tina has experience working collaboratively with individuals struggling with various life stressors including but not limited to anxiety, depression, ADHD, low self-esteem, life changes, school problems, relationship issues, and defiance. She strongly believes that each person has the ability to develop the skills to meet their full potential. Sometimes we all need a little bit of help, and that is okay! Tina is ready to take on that challenge with you and support you through the whole process, whether or not it is your first time in therapy. Tina is patient, understanding, open-minded, and down to earth. She is easy to get along with and making you feel comfortable is of the utmost importance.

Tina utilizes a strengths-based and person-centered approach as she believes each individual is the “captain of their own ship.” She uses various evidence-based practices including but not limited to CBT, DBT and MI. Additionally, mindfulness, play therapy, art and music therapy are incorporated as appropriate. Tina ensures that each treatment plan is individualized based on your specific needs and is adjusted as needed. Tina is ready to take this journey with you to meet your full potential and build on your overall well-being.

When Tina is not working, she spends her time thrifting, listening to music, watching movies, playing video games, going on road trips, and exploring new places.
