During her undergraduate studies, Mary Margaret completed her internship at The Crossnore School, working with K-12 adolescents in the foster care system in rural North Carolina. After completing her Bachelor’s degree, Mary Margaret spent a year doing full-time youth ministry with middle school girls in the Winston-Salem area. After seeing the deep need for mentorship, connection and healing for adolescents during that time, she chose to pursue her Master’s in Social Work in order to become a clinical social worker. Mary Margaret completed her MSW practicum in the Watauga County School System in Western North Carolina, where she served at-risk adolescents and their families in rural North Carolina. Through all of these experiences, Mary Margaret has gained a passion for helping adolescents and their families find emotional health and wholeness.
In her counseling practice, Mary Margaret creates a safe, empathetic environment where individuals feel valued and supported on their healing journey. She is committed to helping clients identify their unique goals and needs, and providing them with practical tools to thrive individually and in their relationships. Mary Margaret has experience working with a variety of mental and emotional health issues, including depression, anxiety disorders, shame, grief, perfectionism and dysfunctional relationships. She primarily uses cognitive behavioral therapy, but also draws upon motivational interviewing, mindfulness, strengths-based approaches, and expressive arts therapy. Mary Margaret believes that each client’s story is full of hope and potential for healing. If a client chooses, she is happy to integrate spirituality into the counseling experience.
